Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, has had surgery for a rare form of pancreatic cancer (islet cell neuroendocrine tumor), surgeons removed a tumor. According to an email he sent to all his staff, the operation was a success and the tumor has been removed.
Apparently, the tumor has been taken out early enough for him to make a full recovery.
Doctors say he will be spending the coming month convalescing. He should be back at work next month.
According to Steve Jobs' email to staff, the tumor was not the adenocarcinoma form (the more dangerous one). He says he does not have the deadly form of pancreatic cancer - in case people look up 'pancreatic cancer' in Google and find links just to the dangerous one.
It is highly unlikely he will have to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy as the removal was done early enough.
Apple's Sales and Operations Chief, Timothy Cook will take the helm while Steve Jobs is recovering.
Steve Jobs was a co-founder of the Apple company. In 1985 he ventured off to start another company. He came back in 1997 and has been credited for Apple's recent recovery of market share.
