Kidney Disease Awareness and Education Week (August 11-15, 2008*) is an ongoing, award-winning campaign that has helped improve care for renal patients through key legislation. ANNA members use this week to educate lawmakers and their aides about renal disease and issues affecting the renal community and patient care. More information about the campaign is available on ANNA's Web site .
During Kidney Disease Awareness and Education Week, nurses can share ANNA's newly revised "End Stage Renal Disease Briefing Book for State and Federal Policymakers: A Guide to Kidney Disease Awareness and Education", a valuable tool that presents in lay terms the basics of end stage renal disease (ESRD). The briefing book has just been revised to reflect the most current data related to kidney transplantation. The book also covers an overview of conditions associated with ESRD and information on treatment modalities, kidney transplantation, vascular access, Medicare payment policy and the role of the nephrology nurse in patient care.
*The dates for Kidney Disease Awareness and Education Week 2008 have been changed to coincide with Congress' summer recess.
