Ms Mary Wallace, T. D. Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children with special responsibility for Health Promotion and Food Safety today (29th July 2008) welcomed the introduction of new stricter laws governing the sale and possession of alcohol aimed at curbing anti-social behaviour.
"I welcome the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2008 which contains some important reforms of the licensing laws and public order legislation to address the adverse consequences of alcohol misuse in our society" the Minister said.
The Minister went on to say that the Government is concerned about the negative impact alcohol is having on young people in particular and is looking at other ways of addressing this problem including the new stricter Voluntary Codes on Advertising of Alcohol introduced by her Department on 1st July this year.
