"A Needed Lifeline: Chronically Ill Children and Public Health Insurance Coverage," Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: The state-by-state analysis, conducted by the University of Minnesota's State Health Access Data Assistance Center, shows that insured U.S. children are three times more likely to visit a physician in the course of one year than uninsured children. Ninety percent of chronically ill children enrolled in SCHIP, Medicaid or a form of private insurance have consistent access to needed care, while 41% of uninsured chronically ill children postpone or skip needed care, according to the report (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation release, 8/14).

"A Recovery Raises Expectations Too," Kaiser Family Foundation: In this essay, Kaiser Family Foundation President and CEO Drew Altman provides a broader perspective on the Foundation's recently released survey of the people of New Orleans and their ongoing struggles with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaks. The essay is the latest installment of a Foundation series, titled "Pulling It Together ... from Drew Altman" (Kaiser Family Foundation release, 8/13).
