Commenting on the British Medical Journal research paper on healthcare for over 50 year olds, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Dr Peter Carter said:

"We welcome the key findings of this paper, it highlights the importance of training and support for healthcare staff in delivering fundamental essential care and services to older people.

"More importantly, it also emphasises the need for more Government action through the recruitment and retention of specialist nurses, as well as adequate funding to increase the level of services available to our most vulnerable citizens."
