The medical significance of Electroencephalography (EEG) and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is well established.

Furthermore, taking into consideration that the language of mind is electric signalling it follows that EEG and MEG allow the recording in real time of "brain conversations".
v In order to produce images of brain activation using these imaging techniques it is necessary to solve a particular class of mathematical problems called inverse problems.

The relevant inverse problems for EEG and MEG involve the calculation of the neuronal current from the knowledge of the electrical field and the magnetic field measured on the scalp and outside the head repectively.
