Minister Máire Hoctor, TD, Launches Age Action Ireland's "Positive Ageing Photographic Exhibition" In Kilkenny Castle

Máire Hoctor, TD, Minister for Older People launched the "Positive Ageing Photographic Exhibition" which is organised by Age Action Ireland. This event is sponsored by ESB Customer Supply. It is part of the build up to "Positive Ageing Week" which runs from 26 September to 4 October 2008.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Hoctor said that she was inspired by the quality of the photographs on display. She added that Age Action Ireland were to be congratulated for showing clearly the energy, talent and zest for life which older people undoubtedly possess in abundance.
Minister Hoctor went on to say that "a key-stone of the Government's policy in relation to older people is to support them to live in dignity and independence in their own homes and communities for as long as possible".To cater for their needs, the Minister said that"the Government has invested heavily in this area, resulting in significant service improvements in community supports over the past number of years. For example, in 2007, approximately 12 million home help hours were provided, benefiting an estimated 53,000 people. In the same year, some €110 million investment was provided to support over 4,000 Home Care Packages". "Such initiatives",said the Minister,"bring real improvements to the lives of recipients throughout the country".
