Controlling Cervical Cancer In The Developing World - Recent Advances Explained

Recent advances in cervical cancer prevention offer new hope for controlling the disease in developing countries, where 80% of cases occur.

In a new series of papers launched Thursday by the journal Vaccine at the World Cancer Congress, leading researchers will set out the best independent, global thinking on the issue, provide new research on the cost effectiveness of HPV vaccines in two of the hardest hit regions of the world - Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region - and offer new insights into the most promising strategies for tackling the disease in low-resource settings.

What: Reporters are invited to attend a media briefing held jointly by Elsevier, the publisher of the research monograph, and the International Union Against Cancer, host of the World Cancer Congress. Key findings of the monograph will be outlined and experts will discuss why the new era of cervical cancer prevention presents an opportunity to bring the disease under control in poor countries for the first time. Advocates will brief reporters on how efforts are being stepped up to accelerate progress.
