Starting in 2009, Springer will publish the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine (IJBM). The quarterly peer-reviewed journal is the official organ of the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM) and was previously published by Taylor & Francis.

The International Journal of Behavioral Medicine publishes original research and integrative reviews on interactions among behavioral, psychosocial, environmental, genetic and biomedical factors relevant to health and illness. The scope of the IJBM extends from research on biobehavioral mechanisms and clinical studies on diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation to research on public health, including health promotion and prevention. The IJBM publishes research originating from all over the world. In addition, the IJBM invites research on multinational, multicultural and global aspects of health and illness. The editor-in-chief is Joost Dekker of the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.

Redford Williams, President of the ISBM, said, "The alliance between ISBM and Springer marks a new era in which ISBM's goal of promoting the application of behavioral and social science to improve health on a global scale is closer to becoming a reality. Springer's impressive resources will ensure that a growing cadre of international researchers, clinicians and public health professionals in new member societies in, for example, South Africa, China and Brazil will have access to a rapidly expanding body of knowledge."

Janice Stern, Senior Editor, Health and Behavior, at Springer, said, "Springer has a vibrant program in behavioral medicine and public health. We are excited about our collaboration with ISBM and the addition of their journal to our behavioral sciences portfolio. I am especially cognizant of the fact that much of the research submitted to IJBM comes from outside the USA, which serves the Society's and Springer's shared goal of dispensing peer-reviewed behavioral science research to the global academic and clinical community."

The International Journal of Behavioral Medicine will be published online and in print, starting with Volume 16 in March 2009. The journal will include Online First™, Cross Reference Linking, and Alert services. All authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, will have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. The previous volumes of the journal will be digitized by Springer, making them available to readers through the Springer Online Archives Collection.
