The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, today announced the reappointment of Arnold Steinberg as a member of the Governing Council for the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), for a three year term.

"Mr. Steinberg has already made a significant contribution having acted as Chair of the Governing Council while a new president was being sought," said Minister Clement. "His vast experience and his involvement with the governance of health and health research organizations makes him well suited for this position."

Mr. Steinberg is a senior officer of Cleman Ludmer Steinberg, Inc., an investment holding company. He was Chairman of the Board of Governors of the McGill University-Montreal Children's Hospital Research Institute for 19 years and a member of the Board of Governors of McGill University for 10 years. In 1995, he was elected Chairman of the Interim Board of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and in 1997 became the founding Chairman of the MUHC Board.

Mr. Steinberg has a strong knowledge of the healthcare sector. He is the Advisory Board Chairman of McGill's Faculty of Medicine and the Chair of the Board of Directors of Canada's Health Infoway, an independent organization established to accelerate the development and adoption of electronic health information systems in Canada.

A Member of the Order of Canada, Mr. Steinberg is a graduate of McGill University and Harvard Business School, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from McGill.
