A newly-released 2008 Medical Economics survey focusing on earnings and productivity for physicians in America features some intriguing statistics concerning the financial successes and challenges faced by today's professional medical community. The March and April 2008 survey polled more than 175,000 American physicians on practice size, productivity, compensation, expenditures, third-party payer arrangements and basic demographics. Details of the survey are available by following the Medical Economics survey link.

"This survey points to some fascinating trends for primary care physicians in terms of geography, business models, wages and medical practice areas," explains Sean Keating, Product Director for Modern Medicine, the website for doctors that offers medical industry news and an online medical library as a resource for physicians. "We polled more than 175,000 American physicians on many demographic areas, and the resulting statistics are very enlightening about the changing face of healthcare and physician lifestyles. I think every physician in the U.S. can benefit from this trenchant medical news."

Among some of the findings discussed in the survey is the decrease in weekly patient visits nationwide for primary care physicians while patient loads for general and family practitioners increased, as well as the earnings discrepancy for physicians based upon geographic locale and business model.
