Hayborough Pharmacist Awarded For Excellence (SA), Australia

Justin Turner, of Hayborough Pharmacy, was named as South Australian Pharmacist of the Year at the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (SA Branch) awards night on September 8.

The award was presented for Justin's "outstanding commitment to professional pharmacy services".

In presenting the award, PSA (SA Branch) President Grant Kardachi commended Justin's achievements and commitment to delivering a range of professional pharmacy services.

"Justin's work is a great example of how pharmacists play an important role as integral members of the health-care team," Mr Kardachi said.

"Justin is an accredited pharmacist and works closely with local GPs to ensure the quality use of medicines and optimal patient outcomes.

"One aspect of this work involves Home Medicines Reviews where a GP refers Justin to visit a consumer in his or her home to assess how effectively they are using their medicines.

"Justin will discuss with the consumer their overall use of medicines - whether these are prescription, non-prescription or complementary - and assesses whether there may be issues such as potentially harmful interactions between different medicines.

"Such reviews are just one of a range of specialist pharmacy services provided by Justin and his staff at Hayborough Pharmacy."

In accepting the award, Justin commended the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia for its commitment to professional pharmacy services and reflected on the satisfaction that comes with the delivery of patient-focused health care.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia is the organisation that represents the professional interests of Australia's 18,000 pharmacists. It provides standards of practice, education, training and practice support for pharmacists and helps members of the profession to deliver quality health care to consumers.
