The Minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, will inaugurate today, Wednesday 17th September from 1:30 pm, the fourth edition of BIOSPAIN, currently the most important biotechnology fair in Spain which will take place in the Granada's Congress and Exhibition Centre (Avda. del violón, s/n) for the next three days.

Garmendia will speak at the opening together with the president of the Spanish Association of Bioenterprises (ASEBIO), José María Fernández Sousa-Faro, and two counselors of the Government of Andalusia, Francisco Vallejo fot Science and Innovation, and Maria Jesus Montero for Health. At the inauguration, there will also take part the president of Farmaindustria, Antoni Esteve; the general manager of GENOMA Spain, Jose Luis Jorcano; the managing director of INTERES Invest in Spain, Javier Sanz; the president of the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (Spanish initials SEBIOT), Jose Luis Garcia; and the president of the Granada Health Science Technological Park's Foundation, Francisco Gonzalez.

Before the opening session, at 11:30 am, BIOSPAIN 2008 co-organizers will appear on a press conference to speak about its main activities. In this meeting with the media, there will be the main responsibles for ASEBIO, for the Innovation and Development Agency for Andalusia (Spanish initials IDEA), for GENOMA Spain, for Farmaindustria, for INTERES, for SEBIOT and for the Granada Health Science Technological Park. The press conference will take place in the Exhibition Centre's Press Room (2nd floor).

The main activities will start on Wednesday morning. At 9:00 am the first sessions of the scientific congress BIOTEC 2008 will begin, and there will be new sessions at 3:30 pm.

Early in the morning will start the commercial exhibition, where there will be represented more than 140 companies and institutions. At 12:30 pm, the plenary sessions will begin with the expert Kenneth Morse, who runs the entrepreneur programme at M.I.T. (Massachusetts Technology Institute).

The forum for investors will also open its doors the first day. From 3:00 pm both national and international researchers will present their works to public and private investors searching for financing opportunities. Throughout the day there will also take place conferences and presentations that will complete the activities of the event.
