Figures released show that MRSA and CDiff are significantly reducing at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
In the last five months (April - August 2008) there have been 3 MRSA blood stream infections in the hospital, compared with 9 in the same period last year. This shows a 12 month reduction of 67%.
In the same five months this year there have been 28 post 48 hour CDiff isolates, compared with 36 last year. This shows a reduction of 22%.
Medical Director Dr Cecil Blumgart "These figures show that we are continuing to make excellent progress in reducing healthcare associated infections at Musgrove Park. We have not had a case of an MRSA blood stream infection in the hospital for the past 139 days. This is good news for patients, visitors and staff. However, we are not complacent and will continue to prioritise efforts to further reduce the incidence of infections at the hospital".
