The influenza season of 2007-2008 saw the highest incidence of flu in recent years for Indiana County, Pennsylvania. In preparation of the 2008-2009 season, the Indiana County Community Emergency/Disaster Planning Committee and the Health and Human Services Subcommittee of Indiana, Pennsylvania are staging a drill during the month of October to test their PODS (Point of Dispensing Sites) System. Three of the nine PODS sites will be tested to prepare and train personnel on how to respond in the event of a pandemic influenza outbreak.

The flu vaccine given out at the specified PODS sites as a part of this drill is the brand Afluria, manufactured by CSL Biotherapies, and was donated by Blood Diagnostics, Inc. (BDI), a national leader in the distribution of biopharmaceutical products.

"We are grateful to both CSL and BDI that they share in our concern for public health and for supporting us in our efforts to not only supply flu vaccine but to prepare for pandemics," notes Diana Verba, Preparedness Consultant for Indiana Regional Medical Center.
