Almost 100 senior doctors are ready and waiting to tackle the palliative care crisis in England - if given the chance.

A Commons health select committee report - Palliative Care: Fourth Report of Session 2003-04, published in July, says there are at least 100 consultant vacancies.

Now 95 staff and associate specialist doctors say they are interested in progressing to consultant status. But in order to do so the rules on specialist accreditation need to change.

The doctors are frustrated that changes are not being made as quickly as they hoped.
