As part of an ongoing effort to expand its comprehensive offering of diagnostic and interventional devices, Cook Medical announced today the North American launch of its Advance® 18LP Balloon Dilatation Catheter. With a low crossing profile and small sheath compatibility, Advance 18LP is designed to provide physicians with superior deliverability.
Cook's Advance 18LP is a .018" wireguide compatible PTA balloon intended for use in patients with lesions of the peripheral arteries (including the iliac, renal, popliteal, infrapopliteal, femoral and iliofemoral), as well as obstructive lesions of native or synthetic arterio-venous dialysis fistulae. The new catheter will be an integral part of Cook's Advance PTA balloon line and will play a major role in Cook's leg therapies program.
"The Advance 18LP is the first of several new PTA balloons that Cook is developing specifically for leg therapies," said Rob Lyles, global leader of Cook Medical's peripheral intervention business unit. "The Advance 18LP has been evaluated by over 50 physicians globally and we are extremely excited about the positive feedback, especially relating to the low profile and rapid deflation time."
With 4 Fr sheath compatibility through 7 mm diameters, Advance 18LP has the smallest sheath compatibility of any .018" compatible balloon currently available in North America. The device utilizes advanced thermal setting of the balloon folds for improved rewrap and sheath pull-back. A unique double-lumen shaft construction using optimized nylon-blend material reduces balloon inflation/deflation time and improves pushability while maintaining kink resistance.
