Audrey Birt, Breakthrough Breast Cancer's Director for Scotland says: "Breakthrough Breast Cancer welcomes the publication today of Better Cancer Care. It's now essential that clear plans are put in place to ensure the recommendations in this report are implemented as soon as possible. In order to translate this into real benefits it is also essential that patients are involved in the development of cancer services.
"Around 4,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in Scotland and with more women than ever before surviving the disease, Breakthrough welcomes the Scottish Government's emphasis on addressing issues around living with cancer - even after treatment has finished. Breakthrough is encouraged that two-view mammography will be in place by 2010 at every screening appointment, however, it's essential that more is also done to ensure women realise the importance of breast screening, keep their appointments and that the service continues to develop and improve.
Breakthrough is the UK's leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research, campaigning and education. Our essence comes from the thousands of people who are committed to a single vision - to work for a future free from the fear of breast cancer.
