A number of members have contacted MPS expressing concern about correspondence asking them to provide details to "keep the medical directory up to date."

The correspondence states: "Please return this form in the enclosed business reply envelope, by doing so even you will be helping to keep the Medical Directory up-to-date. We publish your basic listing consisting of your complete address details, telephone and fax number free of charge, even if an order - as detailed below - is not placed. Upon receipt of your form, we will check your details in the Medical Directory and update them…"

Some have mistaken this as a request to update their details in the Medical Directory, which is published annually by Informa Healthcare and requires no entry fee. However, the publication in question is in fact an advertising directory of Physicians and Therapists, and entry incurs a cost of €983 per annum - payable three and half months in advance.

Always read the small print before you sign and contact MPS if you have any concerns.
