Kingston Hospital NHS Trust has reported that cases of Clostridium difficile (C diff) at the Trust have reduced by 63% in the nine months to 30 September 2008 (compared with the same period in 2007).
Helen Dirilen, Director of Nursing and Quality said: "I am pleased that our hard work in controlling infection has been rewarded with a significant reduction in the number of cases of C diff this year. This is a major achievement and is the result of the commitment and dedication of staff across the hospital.
"Combined with our Triple Green rating in the recent Healthcare Commission "spot check" against the Hygiene Code, and the strides we have made in reducing MRSA bacteraemia cases, these results demonstrate how seriously we take the prevention of infection in our hospital.
"I am most pleased for our patients. We know how important cleanliness is to them, and I am pleased that Kingston Hospital has one of the best records in the country for reducing infection this year. This does not mean that we can relax and we will continue to keep up this hard work across the Trust."
