Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTCBB:PWRM) announced today that Dr. Marwan Sabbagh, Chief Medical-Scientific Officer of Sun Health and Dr. Ira L. Goldknopf, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Power3, have jointly submitted an abstract entitled "Development of a novel biomarker approach for detection of Alzheimer's disease" for presentation by Dr. Sabbagh to the 61st annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology to take place in Seattle on April 25 - May 1, 2009. Power3 Medical is a leading biomedical company specializing in the development and commercialization of protein based diagnostic blood tests for the early detection of breast cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

The clinical validation trial involves the testing of prospective (fresh) blood samples from 100 patients and controls (non-cognitively impaired) at the Cleo Roberts Center, Sun Health Research Institute, 10515 W. Santa Fe Dr, Sun City, AZ, 85351. It follows Power3's in-house discovery and identification of 59 blood serum protein biomarkers, blood test development and validation, and patent filings, employing retrospective (stored) blood serum samples from 115 Alzheimer's disease patients, and 75 age-matched normal controls. "It is critical to have the ability to diagnose Alzheimer's disease more accurately, earlier, and faster than currently available. If physicians can intervene earlier, before the patients suffer debilitation and irreversible damage, the drugs currently used to slow disease progression can be more effective. In addition, the ability to detect Alzheimer's disease processes early and monitor disease progression in the patients' blood will ultimately lead to more effective and personalized treatments," said Power3's Dr. Goldknopf.

"This study is promising. There is a lot of interest in developing biomarkers for detection of Alzheimer's disease. Such technology would have immediate clinical applicability," added Sun Health's Dr. Marwan Sabbagh.

"Power3 Medical is gratified that renowned Alzheimer's Neurologist Dr. Marwan Sabbagh and the prestigious Sun Health Research Institute have teamed with Power3 in the clinical validation trials of Alzheimer's disease," said Helen R. Park, Interim CEO of Power3. "The positive results of this Phase I trial to be reported at the meeting will go a long way to show that the clinical and scientific community recognizes the importance of our advancements in Alzheimer's disease diagnosis through blood-based testing. In addition, this is further validation of Power3's leadership position in advancing biomarkers and blood tests to provide for more effective diagnostics and targeted therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases and breast cancer."
