Professor Tom Quinn will be delivering a Professorial Lecture at Coventry University later this month. Professor Quinn, the country's only Professor of Cardiac Nursing, will be giving the talk as part of a series of lectures organised by the University to promote the work of its academics.

Professor Quinn's talk on Monday 24 November will be entitled - "Saving time, saving lives, improving emergency care of heart attack and stroke."

Professor Quinn is a leading figure in cardiovascular nursing, an adviser to the Department of Health in emergency cardiac care and is cardiovascular, stroke and research lead for the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WMAS) as well as clinical lead for cardiovascular disease, stroke and vascular diseases in the NHS National Library for Health.

Professor Quinn's areas of research centre on improving systems for delivery of rapid emergency cardiac care, both in and out of hospital, and policy in the cardiovascular arena.

Professor Quinn represents the ambulance service on the Acute Clinical Studies Group of the UK Stroke Research Network and was the first chairman of the Royal College of Nursing's Cardiovascular Network.

In 2006 Professor Tom Quinn was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing for his outstanding contribution to research and practice of cardiac nursing, particularly in relation to nurses, treatment and the care of patients suffering from heart attack. He is also a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.

This will be the final opportunity to hear Professor Quinn in his Coventry University role as he will be taking up a new position at the University of Surrey early in the New Year.

Professor Quinn will be delivering his lecture on Monday 24 November at 6pm at the Humber Lecture Theatre. Admission is free and it is open to the public.
