Cook Medical Unveils Web Site Designed To Educate Physicians On Balloon Percutaneous Tracheostomy

Cook Medical today further demonstrated its commitment to physician education through the launch of the Ciaglia Blue Dolphin Web site. Accessible through the Cook Medical Web site, this educational microsite is designed to provide physicians with the latest information on a new technique of percutaneous dilational tracheostomy (PDT). This method of entry to the trachea is based on the Seldinger technique that uses a needle, wire guide and dialator to access and enlarge the airway to allow placement of a tracheostomy tube. The site specifically discusses balloon percutaneous tracheostomy that is performed by the inflation of a balloon catheter to provide true radial dilation.

As part of this new Web site, Cook is unveiling an interactive balloon percutaneous tracheostomy simulator for physicians. This self-guided, self-paced and self-correcting educational tool allows physicians to become acquainted with this cutting edge procedure. In addition, the online destination includes a procedural video and interviews with Dr. Michael Zgoda, Asst. Professor - Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care Medicine, Carolinas Medical Center, and Dr. Ben deBoisblanc, Professor of Medicine & Physiology, LSU Health Sciences Center, on their experiences with this method of performing a PDT. The Web site also features a full procedural animation, resource center with FAQs on the procedure, referenced articles and helpful hints.
