Woodlands, the MS Society's respite care centre in York, has been recognised by two significant awards.

The centre, which provides vital respite to people with and affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), is one of four sites across the country managed by the MS Society.

The first award announced at the York Press Business Awards saw Woodlands win the Best Business and Educational Link, recognising work with student volunteers and work placement students sponsored by The University of York.

The centre then also scooped the prestigious Care Employer Award at the Great North Care Awards, sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, in recognition of commitment to care, a person-centred approach and success in delivering a quality service.

Simon Gillespie, Chief Executive of the MS Society, said: "These awards recognise the innovative and enterprising work of the centre and my congratulations go out to the staff and volunteers involved."
