Stryker Corp. (NYSE: SYK) today announced the release of its Tritanium Primary Acetabular System, the only 3-Dimensional advanced fixation technology at a primary price point benefiting both patients and hospitals.
Limited previously to revision cases due to high cost and low availability, Stryker is the first company to affordably offer, with widespread availability, this advanced fixation technology. This technology may be especially beneficial to patients undergoing primary hip replacement who require enhanced fixation, such as those with low bone density and the 55 percent of Americans age 50 and older diagnosed with osteoporosis.1
The Tritanium technology is biologically inspired and designed to resemble trabecular bone, a type of spongy bone tissue that provides skeletal support. Unlike 2-D technology, which is the current standard of care for primary total hip replacement and allows only for bone to grow onto the component's surface, Stryker's 3-D Tritanium technology allows for bone to grow into the component2 providing enhanced fixation.3 Equally important, Tritanium is the only commercially-pure Titanium matrix, which studies have shown improves bone ingrowth when compared to alloys3 thereby offering increased biocompatibility.
"The Tritanium technology allows me to provide personalized treatment options based on clinical needs, especially for those with lower bone quality that may require a component that improves fixation," said Timothy Izant, MD, Chief of Orthopaedics at Crouse Hospital and an early user of Stryker's Tritanium technology.
"We believe that Tritanium will be the new standard of care for primary hip replacement and are committed to offering advanced technologies that address healthcare costs and benefit all patients," said Mike Mogul, President of Stryker Orthopaedics.
