The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology has received three 2008 MarCom Awards for its work on its 2008 Annual Report, ASTROnews and The Radiation Oncology Treatment Team brochure.

The MarCom Awards is an international competition that recognizes the achievements of marketing and communication professionals. More than 5,000 entries were submitted for the 2008 competition from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers in the United States and several foreign counties. The winners were selected by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

This year ASTRO's 2008 Annual Report won a Platinum Award in the association annual report category; platinum awards are presented to entries that are judged to be the most outstanding entries in the competition based on their excellence in quality, creativity and resourcefulness. This is the second year in a row that ASTRO's Annual Report has been awarded a Platinum Award.

The January - March 2008 issue of ASTROnews was also honored in this year's competition and received a Gold Award in the association magazine category. Gold awards are presented to entries that exceed the high standards of the industry norm. Finally, one of ASTRO's patient-friendly brochures, The Radiation Treatment Team, received an Honorable Mention Award in the consumer awareness brochure category.

"ASTRO strives to deliver high-quality publications to its members and the patients that they treat," Laura I. Thevenot, ASTRO's chief executive officer said. "It is an honor to be recognized for the outstanding design and editorial content that we put into each product that we produce."

ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 10,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies. As the leading organization in radiation oncology, biology and physics, the Society is dedicated to improving patient care through education, clinical practice, advancement of science and advocacy.
