Northeastern's School Of Nursing To Host Conference On Global Aspects Of Caring For Underserved Populations

Led by Michelle Beauchesne, DNSc, RN, CPNP, associate professor at Northeastern University, and in collaboration with the Bouve College of Health Sciences, the School of Nursing and the Provost's Office, all at Northeastern, the university is hosting the annual conference, Caring for the Underserved: A Global Perspective, at Northeastern on Thursday, December 11 through Saturday, December 13, 2008. This conference was possible through a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which was awarded to professor Beauchesne earlier this year.
This is the 16th year for the conference, which is dedicated to showcasing clinical innovations, new research findings and health policy issues related to helping the underserved. Conference attendees will explore emerging trends and priorities for health care delivery methods and network with colleagues in various aspects of the health care industry. This conference allows for participants to take part in active dialogues with experts in different areas of research or healthcare to discuss ways in which they can collaborate to develop more effective health care delivery methods for underserved populations.
Attendees will earn 15.6 contact hours for attending the conference.
Poster sessions will be held on Thursday and Friday during the conference. Information sessions will address topics such as the health implications of climate change, global variations in nutritional issues and psychopharmacology and adolescents, among others.
The welcoming reception and registration will take place on Thursday, December 11 at 6 p.m. Northeastern University Provost, Stephen Director, will be speaking during the reception.
The keynote on Thursday, entitled Caring for the Underserved in the UK: Evidence from Ongoing Research at BUCKS New University, will be given by David Brodie, Ph.D., from Buckinghamshire New University in the UK, at 6:00 p.m. Friday's keynote, entitled Under Serviced People and Places in Canada: From the National Situation to the Specific Case of Early Detection and Treatment in child and Adolescent Mental Health, will be given by Gavin Andrews, Ph.D., from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada at 8:45 a.m. Saturday's keynote, presented by Patrice Nicholas, DNSc, MPH, APRN-BC from Brigham & Women's Hospital, entitled Global Opportunities in Healthcare Research, will take place at 8:45 a.m.
