A unique new website: www.florid.org.uk has gone live. The website aims to provide a one-stop place for people to find no-nonsense mental health information which is easy to understand. The website is special in that it has been developed by people who use mental health services for use by people who use mental health services.
Beth Ford, the website co-ordinator, is very excited about the possibilities.
"Florid is a place where service users can take back the power in regards to the information they may need and want. This website is different visually from any other site and presents information is a very simple way. And what is really exciting is that this is a website that allows people to talk and share information freely and as time goes by it will get better and better as people become involved and advise us on what they want to see on it. Florid will help play a key role in providing support, knowledge and space to share and be with others who understand what mental health is all about."
The website contains a comprehensive directory of statutory and voluntary mental health services, an accessible directory of medications, a blog/forum for service users to talk to each other, get support and share information and ideas.
There is also an area for carers and parents to find information about services in their areas. The website will invite professionals to be guest speakers on the chat room to enable an interactive discussion between professionals and service users. The website has also provided an employment opportunity for service users who have been trained in IT skills, the running of a website, web moderating, etc.
