Top Award For Preston Consultant, Rehabilitation, England

A young consultant* at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been presented a prestigious leadership award.
Dr Fergus Jepson won the Emerging Leader award at the NHS North West Leadership "Placing Ladders" Awards, hosted by the NHS North West Leadership Academy.
Dr Jepson was appointed as the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre, formerly the Disablement Services Centre. It is based at the Preston Business Centre in the City.
Rory Davies, Head of Service, Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Fergus has brought a much needed dynamism and enthusiasm as the Centre's clinical lead, complimented with a compassionate and empathic approach to patient care, which has impacted, on all aspects of service delivery.
"His innovative style has lead to scores of innovations including ward rounds to identify prosthetic amputees who are suitable for early mobilisation, the extension of the physiotherapy service, introducing 'complex patient' reviews and launching child friendly waiting and treatment areas with TVs, PlayStations and age appropriate décor, toys and playthings."
He added: "Fergus played an integral part in designing facilities within the Centre when it was relocated to new premises during 2008."
Dr Jepson said: "I am honoured and delighted to have been presented with this award, however I feel it is really recognition of the excellent work carried out by the staff at the SMRC and all the support we have had from the Trust."
The SMRC is a specialist regional centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. It provides artificial limbs, orthotics and wheelchairs for patients.
*N.B. In the United Kingdom 'consultant' refers to a specialist doctor who has a high level of seniority, skill and responsibility.
