The Congress Centre of Davos (SW) is - for the 18th time! - the venue for the European Urology Forum 2009, a urological challenge and very enjoyable educational interactive forum. It will be held from 7 to 11 February 2009. Approximately 250 participants are expected to attend.

"Following on from the success of previous years, we will once more use the format of a combination of state-of-the-art sessions, hands-on training workshops, case studies and the Urological Challenge', says Professor Chris Chapple (Sheffield, UK), Davos Course Director and Adjunct Secretary General of the European Association of Urology (EAU). Professor Hein Van Poppel from Leuven (BE) is the second Davos Course Director. The European Urology Forum is a stand-alone event organised by the European School of Urology, part of the Education Office of the EAU.

Very comprehensive "What is new in urology" sessions are scheduled to open the meeting on Saturday, with excellent lectures from a number of experts in the fields of - for instance - prostate cancer, bladder cancer and lower urinary tract dysfunction, both summarising new trends over the previous year and looking to the future.

On the second day, the interactive virtual laparoscopy training will attract a great deal of attention. Today, medical professionals who want to learn a new technique face a considerable learning curve. The interactive training programme gives medical professionals the opportunity to train real situations before starting 'live' surgery and to stay up-to-date in surgical developments. Using the simulator, the participants react to difficult situations or complications in real time. They will see the results of their wrong answers immediately and learn how to react on the complication.

Apart from the 21 speakers on up-to-date subjects and the six tutors who will be responsible for hands-on training on laparoscopy and ureteroscopy, the Urological Challenge is another exciting event in Davos. In 5 sessions, 5 experts defend their views on a specific topic (e.g. 'Management of the congenital curvature of the penis') against a critique panel. Only one can win…

The European Urology Forum is accredited within the EU-ACME programme by the European Board of Urology in compliance with the EBU/UEMS regulations.
