During the last decade, the field of urologic radiology has undergone dramatic changes. Traditional diagnostic methods have largely been replaced by abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans and ultrasound for many clinical indications. Teaching Atlas of Urologic Imaging, published by Thieme, presents key imaging features of common urologic disorders encountered by radiologists and urologists on a daily basis.
"In this atlas, we have selected cases to illustrate the imaging findings of many common and relatively common urologic abnormalities. We present not only the new modalities such as CT, MRI, and ultrasound, but also the traditional studies. Yet we also extensively make use of CT-IVP and MRI to demonstrate and diagnose common genitourinary abnormalities," says co-editor Robert Older, MD, Professor Emeritus Department of Radiology, University of Virginia School of Medicine.
Each section begins with high-quality images to illustrate a specific case. The layout allows the reader to view the initial presentation as an unknown. The salient radiologic findings as well as a brief list of differential possibilities are subsequently presented, followed by the correct diagnosis. This format makes the atlas an ideal tool when reviewing for board examinations.
According to co-editor Dr. Matthew Bassignani with the department of radiology at University of Virginia Health System, "Teaching Atlas of Urologic Imaging is intended for radiologists and urologists in training, as well as for practicing board-certified physicians wanting to review the imaging findings of many common urologic diseases."
