Glasgow based biotech company BioOutsource was named the Most Promising New Life Science Company in Scotland at the Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Annual Dinner on 5 February 2009.

The accolade was awarded to BioOutsource for its work in the area of quality control testing for bio-tech, pharma and vaccine companies. The award was presented in Edinburgh in front of more than 700 representatives from the life sciences community in Scotland and worldwide.

Robert Reid, managing director of BioOutsource, said: "We are very happy to accept the award as Most Promising Life Sciences Company in Scotland. This award represents an endorsement of our vision for BioOutsource as a leading service company in the life sciences industry."

BioOutsource was founded in January 2007 and started trading globally within the first year. The company now employs 22 people at its base at Glasgow's West of Scotland Science Park.

Rhona Allison, director of Life Sciences at Scottish Enterprise, said: "BioOutsource's award for Most Promising New Life Science Company in Scotland is testament to the ongoing success of the entire life sciences industry in Scotland, both new companies and those at a later stage of maturity.

"The industry now comprises of over 620 organisations and contributes over £3 billion to the Scottish economy annually. Scotland has established a strong international reputation based on the quality of its work and opportunities for innovation and collaboration remain, giving this sector room to grow further in 2009. Scottish Enterprise and all those involved will continue to work hard to support a joined up environment where such excellence can prosper."

In 2008 a range of international life sciences companies - working with Scottish Development International - announced plans to create and safeguard 692 jobs in Scotland.

Runners ups for the Most Promising New Life Science Company in Scotland were D3 Technologies, Glasgow and ReactivLab, Glasgow.
