The UK Department of Health have launched a number of guides aimed at health care providers in order to help them understand their responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA).

One guide of relevance to community pharmacies is You can make a difference - improving primary care services for disabled people. This document is for those who own or run primary care health services such as GP or dentistry surgeries, community clinics, walk-in centres, out-of-hours services, pharmacies or specialists such as podiatrists. It can help service providers to understand their duties under the DDA and what action they can take to meet the needs of their disabled service users.

An accompanying leaflet You Can Make A Difference leaflet - improving primary care services for disabled people is also available. This leaflet is for front-line staff in primary care and suggests how staff can improve disabled peoples' experience of primary care services and meet Disability Discrimination Act requirements, including new access provisions commencing 1st October 2004.
