Budding runners across the UK are coming together for the 2009 Bupa Great North Run and Breast Cancer Campaign wants you on its team. If you missed out on a ballot place, don't worry - Campaign has charity places available and we need you to join the race to beat breast cancer in Newcastle on Sunday 20 September. All Campaign runners automatically become members of the Jigsaw Runners, an exclusive running club, and will receive a professional Ronhill running vest along with unrivalled support throughout their training and fundraising.
Sarah Barnes has already signed up to take on the 13.1 mile run after her great-grandmother, grandmother and auntie all died from breast cancer. She said: "Breast cancer runs in my family with several women on my mum's side having died from it. My mum is now on a screening programme as she is classed as high risk. I'm aware that I may also get this disease so I want to raise money to help the charity find a cure or prolong the life of those being treated for it."
Events Executive, Claire Luckhurst, added: "In 2008, 335 Jigsaw Runners took part in the Great North Run and raised more than £160,000 for Campaign. This year, we'd love more runners to join our team to help us continue funding vital breast cancer research, so please sign up and support the 45,500 women and 300 men that will be diagnosed with this disease in the UK this year."
