Coronary heart disease remains one of Scotland's biggest killers despite a drop of about a third in deaths over the past decade.

Professor Plevin, of the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, said: "The play has a lot of humour in it but we are emphasising the risks of heart disease and the warning signs people should be looking out for.

"Although we are always working to develop new treatments for heart disease, there's a lot which people can do for themselves and their families to reduce the risks and be aware of them. We hope this play will help to increase that awareness." The Angina Monologues will be performed by Focus Theatre Company (Scotland) and directed by Susan Triesman, Director of Drama at the University of Strathclyde. Tickets for the shows are free but booking is recommended.

Performances will be at:

- Platform, The Bridge, Easterhouse, Tuesday 3 March, 2pm (0141 276 9696)
- Mitchell Library, Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 March, 2pm (0141 287 2870)
- Ramshorn Theatre, University of Strathclyde, Ingram Street Thursday 5 and Friday 6 March, 7:30pm (0141 552 3489)
- Maryhill Community Central Halls, Monday 9 March, 2pm (0141 201 9782)
- Drumchapel Community Centre, Wednesday 11 March, 7:30pm (0141 276 0560)
- Pearce Institute, Govan, Friday 13 March, 2pm (0141 445 6007).

The performances in the first week of the tour will form part of National Science and Engineering Week.

It has the support of Glasgow City Council, Culture and Sport Glasgow, Keep Well, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, East Glasgow Community Health & Care Partnership and North Glasgow Community Health & Care Partnership.
