The American Public Health Association (APHA) is pleased to announce the release of a new publication entitled "America Breathing Easier."

Published in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "America Breathing Easier" is a booklet that tells the story of CDC's successful National Asthma Control Program, which funds city, state and school programs, and also highlights successes from state efforts. State programs are making significant inroads and as the CDC National Asthma Control Program celebrates its 10th anniversary, this booklet shares the program's story of success.

"We created the program to launch a public health approach to asthma and we believe it plays a critical role in helping Americans better understand asthma," said Paul Garbe, DVM, MPH, chief of CDC's Air Pollution and Respiratory Health Branch, which houses the national asthma program. "It's the public health approach to asthma that is the success story we can bring to the American people."

The booklet is aimed at anyone with an interest in asthma control, but will likely be of particular interest to state and national policy-makers. It includes details on the public health response to asthma, as well as accomplishments and future directions for the program.

"America Breathing Easier" is available for free download on the APHA Web site.
