A new interactive, kid-friendly website: http://www.kidswithasthma.com.au has been launched by the National Asthma Council Australia to give kids with asthma and their parents the low down on all-things asthma-related, including basic facts, diagnosis, asthma medications, management and FAQs.
Specifically designed to be fun and informative, the site uses simple facts and an interactive asthma-themed Game Zone to appeal to younger patients, backing up the messages with more detailed information on key topics for parents.
Seasonal information will be posted on the site quarterly to ensure it remains relevant and up to date, with the first seasonal topic focussing on back to school asthma.
Detailed clinical information on each of the seasonal topics is also being made available to health professionals via a seasonal email update written by an appropriate asthma expert.
The first update, authored by Professor Peter van Asperen from the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, outlines a patient case study scenario and summarises recent research relating to back to school asthma, providing evidence-based management advice specifically for health professionals dealing with paediatric asthma.
The Kids With Asthma website content has been developed by a National Asthma Council Australia expert panel comprising a paediatric respiratory physician, GP, paediatric asthma educator, community pharmacist, Asthma Foundations' representative and a parent of a child with asthma. It has been developed with the support of an unrestricted educational grant from Merck, Sharp and Dohme. The National Asthma Council Australia retains editorial control.
Health professionals can register to receive Kids With Asthma seasonal update emails at: http://www.msd4gps.com.au
