WHAT:

The Wal-Mart Foundation will make an announcement on a major grant being awarded to the American Red Cross to strengthen disaster preparedness in communities across the country. The grant will help to ensure that smaller, rural communities can respond to the needs of their residents in the first few days of a disaster.

WHY:

When disaster strikes, the Red Cross is among the first to respond, providing shelter, food, blood and emotional support. This funding will ensure communities across the country have the critical resources required to respond to local disasters. The Red Cross will feature on site Emergency Response Trailers and various disaster relief supplies and explain how they are used to provide lifesaving services.
