American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) announced the appointment of Eileen Ehudin Beard, CNM, FNP, MS as Senior Practice Advisor. In her new position, she will provide technical support to ACNM members regarding clinical and practice issues.
"Eileen will be a wonderful addition to our team," said Tina Johnson, CNM, MS, director of ACNM Professional Practice and Health Policy. "She opened the first freestanding birth center in Maryland, and she has dedicated her entire career to women's health and education. Eileen's extensive experience in the clinical and education settings is proof of the passion she has for her work. With her on board, ACNM can continue to increase our depth of knowledge and expertise in practice issues, and enhance our ability to move on these issues.
Beard said, "I have spent most of my career providing health care for women and their families. Being able to share my experience and expertise with my colleagues is a special honor for me. Working as a Senior Practice Advisor for ACNM brings my life full circle."
Beard brings more than thirty‐two years of experience as a nurse‐midwife and family nurse practitioner. Prior to joining ACNM, she worked as a family nurse practitioner for five years. Beard also played a key role in guiding student midwives and has served as a faculty member for Georgetown University, and the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. She has served as adjunct faculty and preceptor for nursing, midwifery and nurse practitioner students across the country, and currently facilitates several family nursing courses for the University of Phoenix. In addition, Beard was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, a nursing honor society in 2002, and has lectured on a number of health‐related topics including the provision of primary care for adults who are physically and mentally challenged. She received her certification in nurse‐midwifery from State University of New York (SUNY) at Downstate Medical Center, and a bachelor's from Excelsior College (formerly Regents College).
