From the floor of the HIMSS09 Annual Conference & Exhibition, Allscripts unveiled Allscripts Prenatal, another in a series of new innovations enabling physicians to provide safer, higher quality patient care. Allscripts Prenatal(TM) is the first stand-alone and EHR-integrated Software as a Service (SaaS) solution to address the unique workflow and cross-provider information sharing needs of prenatal care.
Currently, obstetricians must fax patient information between their offices and hospital labor and delivery rooms. Recent studies show that in nearly 40 percent of all cases, the process leaves them without the critical information they need to make clinical decisions. Allscripts Prenatal enables real-time sharing of patient information between all settings. To match the normal workflow of obstetricians, the solution also provides an easy-to-navigate web-based version of the paper forms used today by most physicians providing obstetric care.
"When we saw the Allscripts product with the prenatal form, our providers said 'we need this and we need it now,'" said Igor Kraev, MD, Medical Director of Informatics at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. "It can be implemented in two hours, takes 20 minutes of training, and I can access the maternity records from anywhere. That's vital for us because when you are delivering babies you can't afford to have clinical information missing. Allscripts Prenatal is a life saver."
Allscripts Prenatal is available as a stand-alone web-based service or as a companion to an Electronic Health Record. Allscripts Prenatal:
-- Offers an interoperable solution that is simple to implement and use, and yet is interoperable with Allscripts and other Electronic Health Record systems.
-- Enables multiple providers to communicate through a single place, making information available real-time, all the time. Caregivers in multiple clinical settings can input and retrieve data securely anytime, anywhere.
-- Reduces clinical and administrative costs by eliminating the expensive and unproductive process of maintaining, faxing, and filing paper records in the office and hospital.
-- Increases patient safety by enabling a more comprehensive and reliable maternity care record.
"When it comes to healthcare, information makes all the difference, and there's no place where it's needed more than in maternity care," said Allscripts Chief Executive Officer Glen Tullman. "We recognized that many electronic health records are not designed with the needs of maternity care providers in mind, and Allscripts Prenatal is the result - yet another innovation from Allscripts that makes it easier for physicians to do what they most want to do - practice the safest, most effective medicine possible."
Allscripts Prenatal is available for demonstration at HIMSS09, McCormick Place Conference Center in Chicago, April 6-8 in the Allscripts booth (# 1303).
