Mimecast, offering SaaS-based email archiving, continuity and security, announced University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) has realized a 60 percent IT cost savings by selecting Mimecast Unified Email Management (UEM) for its 4,000 email users. As email has become the de facto for business communication, UTMC's deployment of Mimecast's UEM service assists them to comply with HIPAA regulations by ensuring its data held in email is fully secure both in transit and in storage. Mimecast will showcase Unified Email Management at booth # 6041 at HIMSS09, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's annual IT conference at McCormick Place in Chicago.

UTMC's IT department foresees eDiscovery as becoming a larger issue in the future for the healthcare industry. UTMC selected Mimecast because of its powerful storage retrieval benefits for archived emails, which UTMC projects will bring significant savings, as well as a reduction in the many resource hours it would take to search for discoverable email containing sensitive Protected Health Information (PHI).

Deploying a SaaS-based unified service instantly saved UTMC numerous hours of resource time per week. According to Douglas Fain, CIO for UTMC, "Just running a separate appliance for archiving was like managing a second email system. A holistic approach to email management made complete sense for our IT organization, not to mention saving 60 percent in annual licensing fees per year by moving to one service. Not only does Mimecast enable UTMC to manage our environment more efficiently, but its high availability and integrity is in line with the overall IT vision for UTMC."

Mary Kay Roberto, senior vice president and general manager of Mimecast North America, said, "Mimecast's holistic approach to email management, specifically with the requirement to protect PHI, offers the healthcare industry a HIPAA compliant solution that is easy to use and manage. The cost savings realized by moving from a fragmented email environment to a holistic one, can ensure that healthcare companies are prepared for the future, while offering IT budget cost savings by eliminating need for multiple appliance-based models."

Mimecast provides the only end-to-end solution for unified email management in the cloud - a fully SaaS-based service that covers archiving, eDiscovery, continuity, security, and policy management for corporate communication and data. Built on a technology architecture specifically designed for SaaS, Mimecast Unified Email Management makes email more useful and productive, removes the fragmented stacks of point solutions, delivers enterprise-grade software services and empties server rooms to facilitate green IT environments.
