IMRIS Inc. (TSX: IM) ("IMRIS" or the "Company") participated in China's first international conference on intra-operative MR held at PLA 301 Hospital in Beijing on April 5, 2009. Over 300 neurosurgeons from China, USA, Germany, Taiwan and Hong Kong attended the inaugural event that focused on developments in intra-operative MR for neurosurgery. The conference was opened by Dir Chen Xiaohong, Director of PLA 301, and featured scientific presentations from Peter Black, Professor of Neurosurgery, Harvard Medical School, Christopher Nimsky, Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, University Marburg, and Michael Buchfelder, Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, University of Erlangen.

The conference program included the official opening of PLA 301's IMRISneuro suite - the first-of-its-kind surgical OR with integrated intra-operative MR imaging in China. Featuring a 1.5 Tesla wide bore magnet, IMRISneuro provides the hospital's surgical team with high quality images before, during and after procedures without moving the patient. Over 150 of the conference delegates were able to observe portions of a live case tumor resection using the new system.

PLA 301's neurosurgical team completed its first procedure on February 23, 2009, and completed five procedures in the first week of operation. In the six weeks since installation of the IMRISneuro suite, the team treated 43 patients suffering with glioma or epilepsy. While PLA 301 is widely-recognized for performing at the highest of global clinical standards, Dr. Xu Bainan, Chairman of Neurosurgery, said: "IMRIS has significantly advanced our neurosurgical capabilities and the system is contributing directly to our hospital's reputation as a world-class facility."

At the conference, David Graves, President and CEO of IMRIS shared his excitement about the project. "It is an honor to have been chosen by the neurosurgical team at PLA 301", said Mr. Graves. "We are certain this technology in their hands will help continue to provide the highest quality of care for their patients."
