As the medical community works to "fully realize the benefits of health information technology for patients and physicians, all aspects of the technology need to be highly connected, secure and affordable so that physicians have confidence to make the investment," J. James Rohack, president-elect of the American Medical Association, writes in a USA Today letter to the editor. He writes, "It is imperative that there are widely recognized interoperability and security standards in place," and health IT "must be easily integrated into the typical workflow of medical practices and hospitals." According to Rohack, AMA is "actively engaged in helping physicians adopt the technology" and recently launched an "online ePrescribing learning center" that aims to help physicians implement health IT (Rohack, USA Today, 4/10).
