ANA Calls For Nurse Nominations In Modern Healthcare's 100 Most Powerful People In Healthcare Recognition Program

Nurses deserve to be recognized - along with nationally known politicians, political appointees and others with influence whose names regularly appear in the roster - as the powerful people we are. In 2009, let's get nurse leaders on the list. You can help make this happen by participating now.

Nominate a nurse leader for inclusion in Modern Healthcare's 8th Annual "100 Most Powerful People" in Healthcare recognition program. Submit your nomination now by visiting Nominees Sought for 100 Most Powerful Ranking

How does it work? Every year, associations go to their members and ask them to nominate their President, Chief Executive Officer or Executive Director. Modern Healthcare will place the 300 people who receive the most nominations on a final ballot and post it on their Web site, Most Powerful People in Healthcare Then, readers will visit the site again to vote for the 10 candidates they believe should make the final list of the "100 Most Powerful."

The 100 people who receive the most votes make the final list with the ranking determined by number of votes received. The magazine reserves the right to resolve voting irregularities. Nominations for inclusion on the ballot will be accepted Monday, April 7 through Friday, May 9.

Voting to determine the "100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare" will take place Monday, May 25 through Friday June 26. The final ranking will be published in the Aug. 24, 2009, issue of Modern Healthcare.

In previous years, these nurse leaders have appeared on the list: Mary Foley, MS, RN, ANA President 2000-2002; Barbara Blakeney, MS, RN, ANA President 2002-2006; Linda J. Stierle, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, ANA Chief Executive Officer; Geraldine (Polly) Bednash, Ph.D., RN, FAAN Executive Director, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Pamela Thompson, RN, MS, FAAN, Chief Executive Officer of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and Linda H Aiken, PhD, FAAN, FRCN, RN, Claire M. Fagin Leadership Professor in Nursing, Professor of Sociology, and Director of the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research and Cheryl Johnson, BSN, RN, the late UAN President.

The ANA is the only full-service professional organization representing the interests of the nation's 2.9 million registered nurses through its 51 constituent member nurses associations and its 24 specialty nursing and workforce advocacy affiliate organizations that currently connect to ANA as affiliates. The ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
