43 year old Melissa Etheridge has breast cancer, says her publicist. She will undergo surgery. Her doctors say that as the cancer was diagnosed early, she should make a 'speedy and complete recovery'.

Melissa Etheridge said "I am fortunate to be under a wonderful doctor's care and thankful that this was caught early. I am looking forward to a quick and full recovery."

Her agents say her short term tour commitments have been cancelled as a result of the coming surgery and treatment. She had planned a short tour to promote her latest album 'lucky.

She plans to stay at home with her family after the operation and during treatment.
