"Controlling Conflict of Interest -- Proposals From the Institute of Medicine," New England Journal of Medicine: In the perspective, NEJM correspondent Robert Steinbrook discusses Institute of Medicine recommendations that support "further restrictions on and oversight of financial associations" between "physicians and health care-related companies, but not a goal to completely eliminate industry contributions." Steinbrook writes that, although some of IOM's recommendations might "be criticized as either too strong or too weak," they are "comprehensive and -- if adopted -- would most likely have substantial effects on individual physicians and medical institutions" (Steinbrook, NEJM, 4/29).
