Each year, approximately 50,000 Canadians have a stroke, and for some of these patients the road to recovery includes an admission to an in-hospital rehabilitation program.

New data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) show that a number of factors can predict if a stroke patient will return home after the rehabilitation stay rather than spending additional time in a residential care or assisted-living setting.

Factors Predicting Discharge Home From Inpatient Rehabilitation After Stroke examined the experiences of 3,700 stroke patients from 90 participating rehabilitation facilities in nine provinces.
