Israeli start-up CartaSense has developed a device that can monitor and provide early detection of illness in pigs. The electronic sensor is a round-the-clock physiological function monitor that measures hog health: pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, as well as a pedometer. Data is sent in real-time to the farmer's mobile phone and computer. Any unusual changes are detected and reported immediately, enabling rapid quarantine and treatment of the affected pig, and averting epidemics, such as the current Swine Flu virus, from breaking out. CartaSense presented the new development at the international Agritech Israel Exhibition now taking place at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds.
