UroToday.com - In our publication, Table 5 seems to be very important for further discussion, containing a meta-analysis of all authors (Corti Ortiz/Gilbert/Tandstad/Oliver/Westermann/Hartmann) using only 1 cycle of BEP for the treatment of clinical stage I nonseminoma.
The group without risk factors for recurrence was comprised 300 patients - of whom, 4 experienced relapses (1.33%), whereas in the group with risk factors (312 patients) 9 relapses occurred (2.88%). Altogether 612 patients had 13 relapses (2.1%). The median follow-up ranged from 47 to 118 months. All of the relapsed patients had been cured by 3 additional cycles of standard chemotherapy.
In conclusion, the data indicate that 1 cycle of BEP is able to reduce the risk of relapse from nearly 50% to 2.9% - even in high-risk patients.
