First FDA-Approved Biologic Therapy for Psoriasis Becomes First in Canada

Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB) today announced that Health Canada has authorized AMEVIVE� (alefacept) for sale in Canada. AMEVIVE, the first biologic approved for psoriasis in Canada, will be marketed for the treatment of patients with moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.

AMEVIVE became the first approved biologic therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis in adults when it was approved in the United States in 2003.

Should You Take Amevive

I took Amevive and three months later had a hysterectomy and radiation. A year and a half later the cancer spread to my lungs. I wasn't a good candidate for it and shouldn't have been prescribed it. Now I am going to die because of it. I had rather have psoriasis and live.

It would be nice that when our med system approved this costly med that our medicare system would cover the costs or at least help out with the cost...not all of us can afford to spend the few thousand dollars a month on it.
